Here’s a quick peek inside the 2009 La Paulée de Meursault - 700 people packed into the cellars of the Chateau de Meursault for the world’s most famous wine party. It’s an afternoon of great wine, food, song and perhaps the most festive atmosphere anywhere on the planet!
We picked about 8.5 tons of beautiful Pinot from our Block 10 at Maresh Vineyard in the Dundee Hills yesterday morning - Crush 2009 has begun! The quality seems to be quite good - should be a very promising vintage if this is any indication of the overall quality…
Next up will be a walk through our blocks of Maresh Vineyard in the Dundee Hills, and I’m sure we’ll shoot some good stuff during crush as well. And I’ll finally produce Part 3 of the Burgundy 101 podcast - but this time it will be in video!
So here we go with Part 2 of our mini Burgundy 101 seminar. This time it’s a walk through the Côte de Nuits - the northern half of the famed Côte d’Or, and home of the world’s finest Pinot Noir vineyards. Enjoy!
We’re back on the air, this time with a little mini-seminar on Burgundy. I teach a series of Burgundy classes here at the winery every winter and spring, starting with Burgundy 101 for some good solid basics, and then up to the Graduate Class for more in-depth and burg-geeky stuff. We’ll start here with part 1 of Burgundy 101, and then will follow up in the weeks to come with parts 2 and 3.
If you’ve been mystified, trying to figure out what Burgundy is all about - this is a great place to start. Enjoy the podcast - and I’ll put up some visuals here on the page that should help this all make more sense. Cheers!
First off, thanks for the kind words and the nice reaction to our first podcast. I’m excited to get this series up and running, and hope to have new programs ready to roll on a semi-regular basis - meaning as often as this wacky schedule of a vigneron/importer allows!
Here then is Part 2 of my conversation with Allen Meadows - who is not only Burghound, I should point out, but also a leading writer/critic on Pinot Noir wines from Oregon and California. Look for his coverage of domestic Pinots in his next issue, which launches in early October, I believe. For more info on Burghound.com, click here.
In part 2 we got into a lot of geeky Burg stuff, but it’s not so far gone that it’s for geeks only. No matter what your level of of knowledge or interest in the complexities of Burgundy, it’s always inspirational to listen to someone who is, in my opinion, the best in the world at what they do. Enjoy!
Speaking of Podcasts - in case you missed it, I was interviewed a few months ago on Grape Radio, the leading wine podcast on the internet. Click here to hear the show.
I’m excited to announce the debut of the Scott Paul Pinot Podcasts - an irregular series of on-line radio programs devoted to our favorite subject - the world of Pinot Noir! In my previous incarnation I was a national radio personality for over 25 years, and I’m thrilled to get back “on the air” and talking about Pinot (which beats playing the same Michael Jackson record every two hours, believe me!) We’ll have interviews, mini-seminars, conversation, education, and whatever else sounds like a good idea at the time!
We’re honored to kick-off the series with an in-depth conversation with Mr. Burghound himself, Allen Meadows. Since 2000 Allen has been the publisher of the quarterly Burghound.com, which has quickly become the reference standard for Burgundy reviews and coverage of the world’s most exciting and complex wine region. Allen spends a minimum of four months each year living and tasting in Burgundy, and is perhaps the world’s leading authority on the wines, vineyards, producers, and history of all things Burgundian.
Part 1 of our conversation is up now - and we’ll have Part 2 up within the next week. Enjoy!
